Meet my lovely new piano. Zak found it on Craigslist for only $200! What a deal! We’ve been looking for ages for a piano for me. It always seemed like it was either too much money, or the piano looked to be in bad shape, or it was two hours away…but Zak did an excellent job with this one: it’s been kept in good shape, the wood is beautiful, came with a bench and was the right price. The lady said it was in the family for awhile, and she has great sentimental feelings attached to it, so she wanted to make sure it was going to a home where it’d be loved and not dumped after a semester. Check! Zak has been pushing for a nice keyboard for me, they are easier to move, can plug in headphones, etc. But my issue is: the keys have to be weighted, have to have at least 1, if not all 3 pedals, full set of keys…and for that, might as well get an electric piano, which I’m fine with. But don’t have $1100 for it.
But anyways. We got this piano now and I’m in love. I played for 2 hours straight. I have been downloading crazy amounts of piano sheet music. There are some great sites out there with complete books of music. I love playing musicals and singing, but need to greatly work on my talent! It’s been years since I sang and played as much as I did in high school—I used to be really good! I had a good range (tenor 1 to soprano 2) and can sight-read a lot of music. I played constantly for church and for choir at school. I need to do some scales and practice routine stuff. It kind of sucks. :(
How I’ve missed playing the piano, though! It’s so wonderful to have a creative outlet that I’m familiar with and even though I’m not as great as I used to be, I still have an emotional connection when I play. I may not play everything accurately, but I always play passionately. I’m not technical, but emotional and that’s one of the things I love about playing the piano. I feel I do a good job expressing emotion when I play and I love to do it. I’m just so happy that we finally have a piano—I never thought this day would come!
I’m so lucky to have a great husband who knows how to work CL like no one else! And because he was willing to take money out of our savings to do this for me. He knows how badly I’ve missed playing and it really means a lot to me that he’d do this for me. :) And for Bryan and Chad for paying for the moving costs—they were apparently going to get me a keyboard for Christmas anyways. They are great friends and I am so glad to have them in my life!
Unfortunately it’s getting late and I can’t play until morning, but I don’t care because I finally have a piano! I’m so happy! :)
